The Department of Defense is at the forefront of the federal government for using and testing renewable energy and energy reduction in our installations and platforms. Energy efficiency, and energy conservation, is a priority for the United States Department of Defense because these efforts simply make good business sense. We need fuels to fly our aircraft, to heat our buildings, to power our computer systems, to run our vehicles, to light our workspaces. When we conserve energy, we lower our operating costs, and we lessen our dependence on outside sources for this important resource. Mindy Montgomery is an energy expert, and senior official with the SECDEF's office of Defense Research and Evaluation. She will be able to discuss DoD energy priorities, challenges, successes, as well as the road ahead.
