The Chicago Bike Lane Program, now in its 21st year of existence, was the brainchild of former Mayor Richard M. Daley who nurtured and guided the project to its present dimensions, articulating the goal of Chicago being known as the most bike-friendly city in the United States. It was Mayor Daley’s articulated desire that Chicago become known as the most bike-friendly city in the nation. New mayor, Rahm Emanuel, has enthusiastically embraced that goal and his administration has already authored some exciting initiatives designed to enhance to the City's bicycling culture.
