Host Deardra Shuler talks with bassist Carlos Henriquez who w/special guest Bobby Allende and Marc Quinones open Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynthon Marsalis (JALC) 2015-16 season entitled Carlos Henriquez Back In the Bronx premiering on Saturday, 9/12 at 8:00 p.m. at Lehman Center for the Performing Arts in the Bronx.

Henriquez debuts his new compositions and arrangements by the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis premiering selections from The Bronx Pyramid CD to be released 9/18. The Bronx-born, Nuyorican bassist is one of the truly bilingual musicians equally virtuosic with the language of jazz and the Afro-Latin tradition. At age 14, he performed at People’s Park with Latin jazz greats like Tito Puente, Eddie Palmieri, and Celia Cruz. A music director for countless performances, Henriquez presents music that shows the breadth of his technical and stylistic dexterity, wherein his compositions and most notable arrangements will be front and center. 

Themed ‘Jazz and American Song’, (JALC)’s 28th season celebrates the music of the stage and silver screen and uplifts jazz’s emerging voices through an impressive array of more than 80 concerts and programs, anchored by the exceptional Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis.
