What do Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton and The Real Housewives have in common? Dr. Cecile Forte suggests all are man-made women. To prepare a unique, provocative and hopefully appealing point of view about this topic, she looked at her own marriage and realized that she hadn’t given her thirty-one plus year marriage much thought. Questions like “What does it mean to be a ‘strong’ woman? What characteristics best describe her? Who does she marry? Who marries her?” guided the discussion. During her research Dr. Forte found that her story is the story of lots of empowered, self confident, self sufficient, and so called independent women. They’re married, partners in committed relationships, divorced and single mothers, victims of circumstance, poor judgment, assumption and expectation; women who gathered the strength if needed to swap marital roles to become heads of household. Relationships between these “man-made” women and the men in their lives are far more complex even when love is clearly the motivating factor. Dr. Cecile Forte's provocative new book pushes passed the boundaries of gender and goes beyond Adam's rib to examine today's relationships and discover love, mutual sacrifice, and respect.
