Former pro surfer, Seth Elmer, talks about his life now mentoring disadvantaged youth and providing those in recovery a sense of hope and direction through his training program that was developed out of a desire to be of service. During his last two years as a pro surfer, Elmer raised funds for surfers who suffered spinal cord injuries. What came out of that experience was a desire to help others in his community. He eventually started a program mentoring disadvantaged youth and teaching them to surf. Through their stories and difficulties, he was motivated to develop a training program that gave them, and eventually those in recovery, a way to acknowedge what they were experiencing and come to know a new way to live. These training programs are compiled in a workbook that will be sold on Amazon in the future. Elmer also discussed his work as a writer and poet, and read one of his poems from a book of poems about love entitled "The Flower Is You: Love Poems by Seth Elmer". This book will be available on Amazon later this year.
Seth Elmer started surfing at age 5 while growing up in Newport Beach, CA. He became a pro surfer at age 17, and began using street drugs as well. He eventually healed his life and decided to use his position as a pro surfer to help others who had been injured surfing. Later, as a surf instructor, he began mentoring disadvantaged youth in Hawaii, which led to a training program that is now being used with those in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. Elmer has always been a writer and poet and has a book of poetry coming out in the near future.
