Jon DeRosa is a singer/songwriter, guitarist, singer and composer based in New York. He studied classical and even flamenco guitar. Later he became enamored of the ethereal, goth, darkwave labels such as 4 A.D and Projekt Records. I had the good luck to work for Projekt Records when a young DeRosa, then 14 years old, sent a demo for his recording project, Dead Leaves Rising. Another incarnation, Fade, followed. Years later came Aarktica.
Aarktica atmospheric project (which still records) was, in part, inspired by DeRosa losing most of the hearing in his right ear accompanied by aural hallucinations. This is a fairly unusual inspiration for a musical project. The hearing loss led to not less but further study of music by DeRosa.
Ultimately DeRosa began a career using his own moniker. First came 2011's Anchored EP. Anchored and the LP that followed, A Wolf In Preacher's Clothes (2012), are that rare thing in music, songs that seem out of time. Parts of these collections would be at home crooned over a car radio in the pre-rock n roll 50s but the music is thoroughly modern. The production is pristine as well and the musicianship superb. These are not good records, they are great records.
