Over the weekend I happen to read a story about ER costs and how they can be expensive. The story focused on the coding the ER and hospital uses for billing purposes. Examples in the article states that a hospital may charge you several hundred of dollars for a split or over the counter medicine. Being treated and released but given a simple solution could cause financial down fall because many people don’t know what to ask/question along with not knowing how a hospital bills based upon a scoring system. The higher the score the more it will cost. Insurance companies may lower the overall cost but still the patient should be aware about the level of care especially if the remedy is going to a local pharmacy to purchase the same remedy but at a lower cost. Sometimes when doctors state they will give you a free sample be aware that they may bill your insurance to cover the cost. Look at your medical bills and if you have questions don’t hesitate to ask for explanation of all charges.
