For those of us who have experienced a life-changing illness or trauma must come to terms with the difference between our new self-image reality verses the previous self-image. Although there are several studies regarding amputation affecting body image, we are going to be discussing some of the factors dealing with restoring your positive body image.

Focusing on one specific change in appearance, the Amputee Coalition of American reports that there are roughly two million people living with limb loss in the United States with nearly 185,000 amputations occurring each year.
