The Barbara Ingram School for the Arts is nationally ranked as one of Maryland's best schools. Located in downtown Hagerstown in the Arts & Entertainment District, BISFA is an example of how education is moving towards smaller learning communities.

The Washington County Board of Education recently voted to suspend the downtown Academic Hub project due to a lack of community support. Meanwhile, it was suggested by a board member that downtown Hagerstown is unsafe, linking BISFA into a similar perception.

I have invited BISFA students, supporters, parents and citizens to join me LIVE on A Miner Detail on Thursday, Nov. 18 at 8:00 p.m. to have a serious conversation about the issues facing downtown, including BISFA and the safety of the students.

I would like to hear from BISFA students, community members and even the naysayers, and I would like to have a positive and productive conversation about how to incorporate new and innovative ideas into downtown Hagerstown.

The downtown Hagerstown area has suffered from staunchly negative perceptions over the years, yet BISFA students, supporters of downtown and community leaders are working to dispel those myths and working to create a movement to bring new life into downtown Hagerstown.

Join me tomorrow night at 8:00 p.m. on A Miner Detail for a discussion on BISFA and downtown Hagerstown.
