Gentrification, as defined by Merriam-Webster: “The process of renewal and rebuilding the accompanying influx of middle-class or affluent people into deteriorating areas that often displaces poor residents.”  What’s not mentioned, however is the government’s intentional relining of deteriorating areas.  Gentrification is the third step in a community coup. The first step is neighborhood renewal, followed by neighborhood decay and finally gentrification to give those communities over to more affluent demographic.  Of course, those caught in the gristmill of gentrification; the mostly copper colored people that are forced out of their homes are often blamed for evictions. And we do play a part in our own disenfranchisement.  Gentrification is happening all across America, in both towns and cities nationwide.  Join me and co-host Niecy Lashelle as we discuss the gentrification situation that’s seriously affecting the lives of Indigenous Americans nationwide.
