“Obama is reaching out, so let’s help him reach out and
touch someone,” says Don (above, at the president’s inauguration).

Don King: ‘Obama’s Time
Is America’s Time!’

Even by his own standards of grandiosity, Don King is pretty pumped these days. Not only did he live to see the first African-American sworn in as our nation’s president, but he’s still out doing what he does best in this “new era of change.” That, of course, would be promoting fights – namely the “St. Valentine’s Day Massacre.”

On February 14, Don will be front and center at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida, as his latest protégé – lightweight champ Nate Campbell squares off against Ali Funeka. And tonight at 10 p.m. ET, Don is here to tell Lorenzo Thomas why this fight means more to him than any fight he has promoted since 1974 – when he burst onto the boxing scene with “The Rumble in the Jungle.”

“I feel wonderful because America is coming of age. America was pregnant and she gave birth on January 20 with a baby named Hope Change Freedom. And for those who have fallen in the struggle, fighting for, marching for and praying for freedom and equality – John F. Kennedy, Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King – all these are fallen soldiers, but not forgotten. We got to rise to the occasion to bring America to its true fruition to fulfill its prophecy. Omaba’s time is America’s time!”
