Poetica weights in on the debate. The following info was taken from missinfo.tv blog posted Michele Says: February 5th, 2009 at 8:12 pm I think it must be so difficult to have made bad choices in your life and then watch someone younger than you magically have it all. That said, Beyonce always tried to be respectful and reverent to Etta James. Would any of you turn down a movie role because someone didn’t want you to play them? Many of this generation thought Etta was dead and Beyonce has revived interest in Etta, her music and her story. As volatile as she seems I would not have chosen her to sing at the Ball either. Beyonce was grateful to be asked. Etta mighta cussed everybody out including the President!! Poetica defends the Legendary Jazz Vocalist whose Voice brings chills up and down the spine when hearing the first few notes of "At Last". The historical moment which I'm sure Etta Felt she should have been included seemed to have caused her to comment. Everybodies commenting on it. Yet The Statement by james "She gonna get her a** Beat" we at "In Between the Beats" Feel it was a joke taken out of context. After all the Ball which Bootylicious sang for was one of many and the others actually used the recording of Etta Jame's Version of the song. We applaud B Day for her disposition yet understand the heart of the predicessor. It's kinda like how we will be when the nastalgia of the Obama's wear off and we are left realizing he couldn't change every racist law and we can only vicariously live thru Michelle and the girls for so long before the reality that we have made personally becomes dominant again. The Nastalgia of BDay Playing Miss James in a Film wore off and the reality that the reward for work done by James may be trickled over to B whether she suffered for it or not became apparent and agitating to Etta. We squeeze in "In Love" by Ryan Toby to commemorate the "Crazy in Love" Diva. Also check out www.myspace.com/missinfo
