Receiving the Harvey B. Milk Leadership Award of the Coachella Valley was union activist and talk show host Ellie Kurpiewski (with the red hair). Recognized for her work as Legislative Affairs Chairperson who represented Southern California in the Association of Flight Attendants; Ellie K lobbied on behalf of safety and work issues, not only for flight attendants but the general public as well. Currently the host of Progressive Talk with Elle K on KPTR 1450 AM, she also is the President Emeritus of the Democrats of the Desert, and office manager for the Democratic Headquarters of the Desert.
Kate Kendall, Esq., Executive Director of the National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR) was the keynote speaker. The National Center for Lesbian Rights, headquartered in San Francisco, is a national legal organization committed to advancing the civil and human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people and their families through litigation, public policy advocacy, and public education.
