Our call in # is 646-478-0417. My special guest is Breast Cancer survivor and comedian Jenny Saldana. Her website is http://www.jennysaldana.com. Jenny Lidice Saldaña is a Dominican actor/writer/producer/inspirational speaker who grew up in New York City and Miami, Florida. She has a B.A. in Theatre Arts from the University of Pittsburgh and was a member of the Friday Night Improv Comedy troupe there. Her theatrical credits include: Dreamgirls, Fool for Love, Jose can Speak, Working, Dancing in the Mirror, and PINK: The Chronicles of BC Jenny. She was a member of the Puerto Rican Traveling Theatre's playwriting unit where she completed her first play, Dancing in the Mirror which was showcased in October of 2001 at the PSNBC Public Space studios in New York City and, directed by screenwriter Maria Escobedo. less Dancing in the Mirror won one of five spots in the 2003 National Hispanic Playwrights Festival in Fort Worth Texas. Jenny was featured in the original HBO Latino HABLA campaign and is featured in the latest campaign, HABLA YA! In January of 2006 Jenny heard the most devastating words anyone could ever hear: “You have cancer.” Jenny's second play, PINK: The Chronicles of BC Jenny is a funny yet touching and very real account of her personal breast cancer journey. PINK was the 3rd place winner in the 2008 Repertorio Español Met Life Nuestras Voces National Playwriting Competition. Cancer free and loving it, Jenny is often asked to speak to schools and groups such as Microsoft; H&M; American Cancer Society and Footlocker to share her inspiring story of a young Latina with breast cancer and spread cancer awareness. She is a 2008 New York Post Liberty Leadership Medal nominee and a 2008 Cervantes Society Honoree for all of her hard work with breast cancer.
