From around the country, the top freestyle rappers battled it out at the #freestyle50 cypher in Los Angeles. Hosted by Sway Calloway and Smack White, the event served as the finale of Verizon’s #freestyle50 challenge, a national freestyle competition that took social media by storm this summer. The nine finalists were chosen from more than 9,000 entries submitted through Instagram and Twitter.
The freestyle cypher featured one-on-one battles judged by a panel of leading hip hop producers and record executives that include Tuma Basa (Spotify), Carl Chery (Apple Music), Big Boy (radio host and actor) and more. Y.K. Supe, the last emcee standing was awarded the grand prize of a single record deal with Kevin Liles’ 300 Entertainment (label for Migos, Fetty Wap and others) — his debut will be produced by London On Da Track (Drake, 50 Cent) — as well as $10,000 and an opening act slot on the upcoming 300 Artist Development Tour.
