First came THE CRUELEST CUT, then THE COLDEST FEAR, and now the third Detective Jack Murphy thriller is available. All three books can be read as stand-alone, but all are based in the city of Evansville, Indiana, and surrounding areas. I know, I know. You thought nothing ever happened in the midwest, but you are wrong. Twenty miles northeast of Evansville was where John Dillinger began his career. And Evansville was the scene of horrendous murders by the "Mad Dog Killer" Leslie Irvin in the 1977, and the target for a serial killer, Joseph Weldon Brown, in 2000.
FINAL JUSTICE is my effort to step back from writing serial killer fiction, but it is brutal and scary enough. I was in the military during Vietnam, and have taught many soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, so I can tell you from experience that during wartime, soldiers are "turned on" as killers, and not "turned off" before being sent home. Many struggle everyday with PTSD from what they've seen or had to do in the name of patriotism. While I am proud of every one of them, I also understand what they've been through and wanted to touch on that in my book. Read it, and you'll see what I mean.
