Eisenhower and McArthur famously said that those who have lived through the horror of war hate it the most. Shawn Hamilton was raised by such a man, a retired Air Force major who fought in WWII but was so reticent to talk about his experiences that Hamilton did not know that his father served an entire career in the military until after his death. In reading through papers that gave a picture of his father's war experiences, he realized the tremendous transformation his father had undergone after his military service, through which he became decidedly antiwar. Since his son had never met his grandfather, he decided to write a book about him, placing his experiences in a wider social context of events in the post-war period until the present. The result was Be All You Can Be, a fascinating holographic look at war, the society that spawns it and how it affects each of us. This show was rebroadcast on May 24 at 9 AM PST/ 12 PM EST on the Star Com Radio network.
