Paranormal. A paranormal phenomenon is different from hypothetical concepts such as dark matter and dark energy. Unlike paranormal phenomena, these hypothetical concepts are based on empirical observations and experimental data gained through the scientific method.

Paranormal investigation is the examination of phenomena that cannot be explained by normal scientific examination. Generally, paranormal investigation deals with ghosts, ESP, psychic phenomena, etc. By definition, a supernatural or paranormal phenomenon is an event that defies explanation in terms of the typical human experience. Examples of paranormal phenomena include ghosts, cryptids, telekinesis, and other forms of psychic powers or supernatural entities.
