Black By Color Only  

As you can tell, I am a black man (not by accident, mind you; I was born this way). Not only that, I am also an American, as my birthplace is Roanoke, VA. Being both black and American means I am part of a rich history. My heart swells when I hear of people like Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, and, of course, Martin Luther King, Jr. I am filled with admiration when I see vintage footage of civil rights pioneers making sacrifices so people like myself can live in true freedom. However, I will only take my blackness so far, hence, the title "Black By Color Only". Not only am I a black man, I am also a free-thinking black man. This gets me into trouble with my fellow black folks because I tend to think for myself instead of following the crowd. I like to hear both sides of the argument before making a judgment about a situation. I don't think I should think a certain way because I am black. The concept of right and wrong is blind to race. Morals and principles are universal to all races. So one race isn't superior to another. To think so is the basis of racism. If you are black and hold to conservative viewpoints in this country, you are viewed as delusional. You hate your race; you're an Uncle Tom, a traitor, and a sellout. You are lower than scum. You are deemed to be "narrow-minded". I guess you are narrow-minded if you don't hold the views of a certain demogogue. So much for being open-minded! I love to listen to the likes of Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Neal Boortz, and I watch Fox News. Add to that list personalities such as Larry Elders, Alan Keyes, Michelle Malkin, Star Parker, and heaven forbid, Ann Coulter. I don't consider myself to be a conservative or a Republican, but I tend to vote that way because the conservative view seems to be closest to my viewpoint. I am a Christian first and foremost.
