Thrills and Chills of Self Employment - Let’s talk about the good parts and bad parts of self-employment. So many people jump into unemployment because they’re trying to get away from something – a bad boss, a dead-end job, an extra-long commute, etc., etc. They don’t do adequate research to find out what self-employment is really like and thus they run into a lot of surprises they’re not prepared for. The purpose of this episode is to give people a realistic idea of what to expect from self-employment and how to overcome the pitfalls that invariable come their way.

For nearly 30 years, our guest, Jeanne Yocum, has been self-employed as a public relations consultant and ghostwriter. Her blog, succeedinginsmallbusiness.com, offers advice to small business owners and solopreneurs.

This spring, Rowman & Little published her first solo book, The Self-Employment Survival Guide: Proven Strategies to Succeed as Your Own Boss.

A Pennsylvania native, Jeanne holds a B.A. in Journalism from Pennsylvania State University and a Master's degree in Journalism from Boston University. After spending most of her career in Greater Boston and in Western Massachusetts, she now lives in Durham, NC.
