Smuggling orchids, selling orchids for more than $10,000 (each) for rare plants, and government agents who track illegal import/export activities.

It's all part of Craig Pittman's book, The Scent of Scandal. Pittman, a 20-year veteran newspaper reporter and author, uncovered the sordid and soiled (okay, we couldn't resist it) details of the world of orchid smugglers, growers, and international traders of these exotic flowers.

Pittman, author of The Scent of Scandal: Greed, Betrayal, and the World's Most Beautiful Orchid, appears on the WordSmitten About the Books broadcast on April 7.

Tune in to the fun. Listen each Sunday afternoon for the WordSmitten "About the Books" broadcast.
