On November 4th at 2pmEST/11amPST Word of Mom is talking with Laurie Wallin - Mom of 4, Speaker and Life Coach - and this is her story - in her own words! Photobucket"Life as a mom is tough. We give, we sacrifice, we love more than we ever dreamed we could. And for some moms, we face the extra challenges of life as a single parent, military mom, or parent of children with special needs. I am one of those moms. I have four daughters - two adopted from foster care - both diagnosed with juvenile bipolar and ADHD, whose past left them struggling to attach to people, and whose present behaviors push our family to it’s limits. Moms like us have a choice to make: To face our extraordinary challenges in a way that is life-giving to everyone in our home... or to run from the challenges, succumb to weariness, and give up. I choose to thrive. I choose to laugh. I choose to build relationships with other moms who are strong and fight for their families too. To end the kind of poverty Mother Theresa said was worst:“...loneliness, and the feeling of being unloved.” And so I’ve made that my mission for over 10 years. I speak for women’s groups on ways to thrive and handle difficulty, and I coach women facing challenges due to loss and change. On my website, I blog about choices, courage, overcoming, community and having hope. I’ve just begun work on my first book - a resource for parents raising challenging kids, filled with stories of real families, a lot of humor, and practical tools to thrive no matter what life brings.
