This week on Women Warriors, May 15 at Noon ET, our special guest is Pam Boteler, President of WomenCAN International, A Global Voice for Equality in Olympic Canoeing.  Pam will talk about “Realizing Your Dreams – No Matter How Challenging”  and how she is taking on the challenge of getting Women’s Canoeing into the Olympic games.

Pam works full-time for the Department of Defense and has been a federal employee for 23 yrs.   Her side job (& most rewarding) is as President of WomenCAN International - A Global Voice for Equality in Olympic Canoeing.  She is a competitive athlete in the canoe sport at the age of 44 & a member of the Washington Canoe Club in Washington, DC.  She has been an advocate for the sport since 2000.  She made USA Canoe/Kayak history at the 2000 National Championships by becoming the first woman to compete in sprint canoe – against the men.  She continued to race against men in 2001, winning Gold in the Men’s C4 (4 person canoe). In 2002, USA Canoe/Kayak changed its by-laws to allow women to compete at the National Championships in events of their own – in all age and boat categories.

Pam was inspired into sprint canoe in 1999 by Canadian pioneer and legend Sheila Kuyper.  As an athlete and President of WomenCAN International, Pam works tirelessly as a global voice for equality in Olympic Canoeing.  Vote to lift the ban at: https://www.change.org/petitions/lift-the-ban-on-women-s-canoeing-at-the-olympics-for-rio-2016
