Three large wind projects in Pennsylvania have been stopped.  WWR will speak with Laura Jackson, the President of Save Our Allegheny Ridges (SOAR) and Jack Buchan, an opponent of the Shaffer Mountain project, about these important victories including how a small, endangered bat saved a mountain.

Bernie Hagen is a Vietnam-era Veteran living with in a 122-turbine project in Minnesota.  Bernie sustained injuries while serving in Okinawa that resulted in a susceptibility to tinnitus.  Prior to the turbines being built, his VA doctor submitted a plea that turbines not be sited close to him as they would adversely impact his health.  Three of the turbines are less than 1/2 mile from his home.

AWEA is all about the money -- your money.
In November of 2011 the American Wind Energy Association met at the prestigious La Costa resort in Carlsbad, California to discuss how to spend millions on fighting off any threats to the continued proliferation of wind turbines.  The document describing the meeting is a eye-opening primer that describes in excruciating detail how a large, well-funded industry goes about ensuring that it will continue to receive giant grants and tax subsidies.

We will highlight the wind industry's number one goal -- extension of the federal Production Tax Credit (PTC).  The PTC, due to expire at the end of this year, is the lifeblood of this otherwise economically impractical industry.  Without the PTC (along with renewable energy portfolio standards, 1603 grants, etc.) the industry would shrivel up and die a natural death.  AWEA knows this and is spending millions now to preserve the billions it expects to gain.
