21st Century Yoga: Matthew Remski & Angela Jamison

Carol Horton, Ph.D., holds a doctorate in Political Science from the University of Chicago, served on the faculty at Macalester College, and works as a research consultant to the nonprofit sector specializing in issues affecting low-income children and families. A Certified Forrest Yoga teacher, Carol teaches yoga to women in Chicago’s Cook County Jail with Yoga for Recovery. She blogs about yoga at Think Body Electric, Yoga Modern, and Elephant Journal;  and author of upcoming book - Yoga Ph.D.: Integrating the Life of the Mind and the Wisdom of the Body (forthcoming November 2012).

 

Matthew Remski runs one of Canada's only Ayurvedic training programs in and has consulted with over 1000 clients in the past six years. Internationally, he has engaged thousands of readers through his writings on Ayurveda and Yoga on his blog and Elephant Journal. Mark Singleton, author of Yoga Body, described Matthew’s new translation of Patanjali, threads of yoga (forthcoming November 2012), as “an urgent, electrified conversation that weaves philosophy, symbolist poetry, psychoanalysis and cultural history…a Patanjali for postmoderns.” 

 

Angela Jamison is the owner and founder of Ashtanga Yoga: Ann Arbor, a traditional yoga school. A former sociologist, she now teaches yoga at the University of Michigan. She has practiced ashtanga yoga since 2001, daily since April 2003.  She travels annually to Mysore, India, to study with her ashtanga teacher, R. Sharath Jois.  Her husband Rob Jansen, their cats Zelda and Lynxx, and Angela live together in Ann Arbor.
