Welcome to Blog Talk Radio and The Voice of Change. I'm Sharon Ann Wikoff and welcome you to the Week-end Edition of the Voice of Change, focusing on the Art of Purposeful and Peaceful Parenting.  Is it not amazing that we are taught about the ABC's (reading, writing and arithmetic) as they say in the 1940's tune, "School Days" but seldom are we given instruction on how to live. In addition, we are not taught about one of the most important areas of life and that is PARENTING!  So, often when we come into parenthood, we have to play catchup, having to self-reflect on the values important to us and then bring those to our children.  No wonder that parenting can be challenging at times.  SO, I suggest we start at the beginning.  "A very good place to start", as the song "Do Re Mi" says!  I invite you to ask yourself the following questions:

What are the life values I want to live by?

What are the values I want to pass on to my children?

What are the values I was raised with as a child?

These three questions are the umbrellas under which we can truly begin to look at the way we parent.

In the late 1980's, I was introduced to the Jefferson Center and took a week-end seminar from them on Character Development and brought that back to present to the private school where I was a teacher. The program was a huge success.  As I recall character traits such as Kindness, Honesty and Forgiveness with part of the curriculum.

I'll put some common values in the BLOG at my website for your reference.  And again, remember to acknowledge yourself first for what is already working in your life.  It's SO important to start there...and then shift if you wish.

This will be the conversation today.  Join us!
