Pam Butler welcomes Alex Beene, life coach, inspirational speaker and author of two best selling children’s books for a conversation about death and depression. Two years ago, Alex’s life was radically changed when he received a phone call saying his mother had suddenly passed away. Losing a parent and a best friend at an early age sunk him into a depression he thought would be impossible to climb out of. Alex will share his story and tools that helped him during his darkest days. Using art and writing to find artistic beauty in loss.

Alex Beene is an author and educator. He has been featured on ABC, CBS, ESPN Radio and an array of print publications for authoring his children's books "Lessons from a Southern Mother" and "The Journey of the Paper Heart." His columns have appeared in the Pulitzer Prize-winning Clarion-Ledger, Mic.com and other prominent media outlets. A constant traveler, he has ventured to over 20 countries and has books in five different languages. He is a songwriter represented by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers and has served as a partner on the Chairman's Circle for New York's Roundabout Theater Company. His philanthropy and work in education have been recognized by the Jackson Sun, which listed him as one of the top 40 leaders in Tennessee. His third children's book, "The Lion & The Lyceum" will release in March 2016.
