On this episode, Heather reviews another method of distribution for the Coronavirus Economic Impact Payment. Many Americans have received either a paper check in the US mail or electronic direct deposit to their bank accounts if they have previously set that up for other payment disbursement.  Another way the federal government is distributing these relief payments is through prepaid VISA debit cards. Here are your Fast Facts:
 
  • The prepaid card return address sender will be from “Money Network Cardholder Service.” Inside will be a VISA-branded prepaid card issued by MetaBank.
  • Activate your card by calling 1-800-240-8100 or visiting  USdebitcard.gov on the web.
  • EIP cards will expire after three years
  • It requires as Social Security Number for activation
 
No one will ever call you about your EIP card. Also, no texting, emailing, or asking you to click on a link they sent to activate this card or to get your money.
 
If you have been approached in any manner it is a scam and needs to be reported to the FTC immediately at FTC.gov
