A Peculiar People

In the Book of 1 Peter 2:9-10, the apostle Peter tells the church -

9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;

10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

These scriptures point to the fact that God’s people are called out of the world to fellowship with Him, and to be part of His kingdom, and this kingdom is not an earthly kingdom. That is what the church is. A called out and separated people who are not part of this world  spiritually anymore, but part of God’s kingdom.
