Gwen Sampe has a voice without limit.  She is a singer without borders for whom music is an aesthetic both auditory and visual. An improvising singer, following in the footsteps of Betty Carter, her mentor, and the great singer/storyteller Abbey Lincoln, she invites her audience on a journey of words, rhythm and melody often applying the principles of "Rhythmelodics" as defined by the late English percussionist John Stevens, (one of her teachers), to word divisions, using those divisions to create rhythmic cells.  Rhythm is the life blood of the universe, the vibration that nourishes.

Singer, composer, arranger, teacher, choir director and workshop facilitator. A native of Houston, Texas Gwen now lives in France where she teaches and performs regularly.  She received her B.A. in political philosophy from The University of Houston.  She later received a scholarship from the Arts Council of Great Britain to attend The Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London where she received AGSM.
