The consequences of social media postings have been all over the news and the topic of much conversation – except perhaps among our youth. It is not at all apparent that they are getting the message because they continue to post items that depict them saying and doing all kinds of outrageous things. It is time to detail the dangers of posting words and images on these sites that have the potential of compromising opportunities because of what they appear to say about youth’s character and behavior. The other side of the coin is what to do about youth whose opportunities are limited because of their social media interaction. The adage remains true: you can’t rob a person of his pain and expect him to grown.” When youth are caught with their most unflattering side showing and it costs them opportunities which cause them pain, they need to be allowed to benefit from that pain, as it is very likely to lead to growth and understanding. Giving youth a second chance because of the pain almost guarantees that they will not grow from the experience. Join us on The Ugly Facts With Dr. Jenn as we discuss social media and parenting!
