RVP MISSION: “Returning Veterans Project is a nonprofit organization comprised of politically unaffiliated and independent health care practitioners who offer free and confidential services to returning veterans and service members of the current Iraq and Afghanistan campaigns and their families. Our volunteers include mental health professionals, acupuncturists, naturopaths, chiropractors and massage therapists. We believe it is our collective responsibility to offer support and healing for the short and long-term repercussions of war zone service on veterans and their families.” Volunteers: Licensed and insured practitioners volunteer for RVP by opening a pro bono slot in their practice for those we serve. In 2010, another 54 licensed/insured practitioners joined our service network. Today, 102 mental health and complementary health care providers volunteer by providing free, confidential services to current war veterans, active duty service members and their families. Services are currently available across the Portland Tri-County area, in St. Helens, Newport, Marion County, Eugene, Hood River, Bend and Southern Oregon. In 2010, we experienced and met a 144% increase over 2009, in the number of clients served, and a 102% increase in the number of service hours delivered. This steep increase was first noticed early last summer, after 2,600 Oregon National Guard troops in the 41st BCT Brigade returned home from a near, year-long combat deployment in Iraq.
