A Conversation With Derrick Watson

A father of six, Derrick Watson is a family man, an educator, and a good time all balled up into one package. His comedy style is very laid back and comfortable. On stage you would think that he is in his living room talking to a bunch of his friends. Derrick is not the ordinary cookie-cutter comedian. He has skillfully combined business with ministry by making sure that God's ministry is his only business. It's not about fortune or fame, it's strictly about the God he serves.  When you see Derrick you will seldom find him without his wife, Rose, 2 sons, Malachi and Elijah, and 4 daughters, Deana, Brooklyn, Chloe and Samantha. Whether it's a church event, fundraiser, street fair, concert, or dinner, if you see Derrick, you get the whole clan. "This is a family ministry, I want my children to see daddy ministering the good news of Jesus Christ. If I was a preacher, people wouldn't bat an eye when they see my clan but because I am a comedian people feel as if I need to leave my family home. Not so. Ministry is Ministry. If I were to make you shout or I make you laugh, my family, especially my children, need to see that ministry comes in many forms. I want to instill in them that ministry is for all who want and need it." Derrick's also the Founder and President of Victorious Production, a theatre ministry that produces original plays throughout the year.
