A field negro, Has to sweat in the hot noon day sun. A house negro, Has to sleep under a sweaty slave master. A field negro, Has to work from sun-up till sun-down. A house negro, Has to kiss white folks’ butts twenty-four hours a day. A field negro, Gets to sleep with his or her family at the end of the day. A house negro, Has to have each of his or her family members, sleep in the beds of each of the slave master’s family members. A field negro, Is often whipped each day. A house negro, Is often raped each day. A field negro, Has to do the white slave master’s tilling. A house negro, Has to do the white slave master’s bidding. A field negro, Usually hates being a slave. A house negro, Usually thinks that being a slave is okay. A field negro, Dreams that one day, they’ll run. A house negro, Is just trying to avoid being put out into the boiling sun. A field negro, Can easily be bought and sold. A house negro, Can usually be bought and paid-for. I’d rather be a field negro, Than a house negro, my son. And… I’d rather be a free negro, Than to be either one. A Black Panther (P.B.C.O.C.N.)
