In this week's episode, Nancy sits down with playwright True Rodriguez to discuss her play, In Defense of Glitter and Rainbows. The play, which centers on the Rodriguez family’s inability to break free from generational demons sheds light on the consequences of remaining in unhealthy relationships and how toxic masculinity can destroy an entire family. The story provides the audience with the opportunity to reflect on ourselves and how, if at all, we repeat unhealthy patterns in our own lives and what we are willing to do to change it for future generations. It’s about the importance of telling our stories, the lessons learned in life and death, and all that we are willing to do to protect our joy. In this candid interview, True shares her inspiration for writing the play, why it was important to write this story and how writing the character of Papi allowed her to reflect on her own relationship with her father.
