JOHN BROWN’S and OSBORNE PERRY'S PIKE In 1859, John Brown and Six Black vigilantes led a raid on Harpers Ferry, W.Va., as part of an effort to dismantle slavery. The pike is one of about 1,000 that Brown had made to arm the black liberators he hoped would join him.

Pan African studies Prof Holloway, @csunorthridge compiled a database on slavery rebellions in the United States. Visit his websitehttp://bit.ly/rebelWeb

The website, which anyone can access, is driven by volunteers and is maintained by donations made to the project, Holloway said.
