The personal story of Lacks, as well as the research role her cells played, is chronicled in Rebecca Skloot's book The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, which was provided to every first-year Purdue student to read this year. Some Liberal Arts faculty incorporated the book in their class assignments. Photo courtesy of Library of Congress
