In 1835, within the city of Utica, New York, as well as in cities and towns all across America, there existed people who harbored beliefs that were in stark contrast with their neighbors. Those differences were so raw with emotions and deep rooted embedded principles of God, family and country that they would shed blood to uphold their truths. Some brought voice to their passions: Some said, "Negroes were better off as slaves..." Others said, "If a man sees a great wrong, it is his duty to oppose it." These are the foundations of this story as a small boy and his mother escape the torturous and deadly clutches of slavery and head north into New York state where slavery was abolished in July of 1827. But, there are still legal slave catchers around who want to return "stolen property" back to their owners in the the south. The mother and her child are caught in a sudden thunderstorm and take cover in a shed on the property of a wealthy Utica man and then the story heats up and brings others into a dramatic drama of morality where lives will be changed forever.
