This week we welcome publisher / poet Michael Annis, of Howling Dog Press, and writer / thinker / ex-marine Jim Bowers, of The Herscher Project. As always we'll feature The News from Mount Liberty near the end of the show.
Michael Annis has been called the most dangerous poet on the planet, his poetry is confronting, disturbing and powerful. He gets consistently great reviews and awards for his editing, as well. His poem, War, starts:
"Like advertisements for condoms, like B-movie bombers, came the War on Poverty, the War on Drugs, the War on Homelessness, the War on Sex and Violence, the War on EVIL and the Axis of Evil, the War on War . . . the next Brave New Movement . . . Mein Kampf on trading cards, pink bubbles bursting onward and outward . . . nationalistic slogans and bible codes on the Holy Hosts of the sacrament, take this my brother, as you storm the Holy Land, eat this in remembrance of Him . . .
Jim' Bowers' Semi-Official Bio goes something like this:
James K Bowers, an obsessed but infrequent writer of science fiction and fantasy, has written several things longer than his own name, usually at the insistence of friends wielding cattle prods. He has never failed to include an adverb or two for the express purpose of inciting the ire of Stephen King's Disciples of Adverbicide. He is the founder of The Herscher Project, and is a member of both Elfwood and Dr. Maureen Shannon's River Valley Voices writers group. He writes occasional book reviews for The Journal, the newspaper serving Kankakee County, Illinois.
