Your Host: Cheryl Culbertson, Owner/Founder - Elder Options of Texas

Melinda Marble, Communications Coordinator for Hospice Austin shares how hospice began, the differences between Hospice care and Palliative care, about the holistic approach to Hospice, how hospice supports caregivers and their family members, and the role Medicare plays. As the first hospice in Central Texas, Hospice Austin was established more than 30 years ago to ease the physical, emotional and spiritual pain of any person in our community facing the final months of a serious illness. Patients receive care in their own homes, at Hospice Austin’s Christopher House or in nursing facilities. As a not-for-profit hospice, our resources are not used to benefit shareholders but instead go back into services to benefit our patients and their families. No one who needs our services is ever turned away because of complexity of disease, cost of care, or inability to pay. Hospice Austin has provided compassionate end-of-life care to patients and their loved ones for more than 30 years. As Austin's not-for-profit hospice all our resources go back into caring for our patients and their families. Hospice Austin is holds the CHAP Accreditation.
