Michael Massenburg and Ron Kelly Bridging the Waters Art Exhibit West meets East

Michael Massenburg was born in San Diego and raised in Los Angeles California. Michael persuades his studies at California State University, Long Beach and Otis Art Institute. Massenburg has exhibited in galleries and museums, completed private commissions and worked on public art projects throughout the country and abroad.  His list of public artworks includes Verizon, MTA Metro, ESPN, American Jazz Museum and the Fabulous Forum. He is also the recipient of various grants, including from the Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs and the California Arts Council. 

In this body of work Michael states, “I want to investigate the language and imagery to explore the issues class, race and culture in their relationship through rituals. In each artwork, I assembled constructions of objects and images in an attempt to engage the subjects through representational, psychological and spiritual perspectives. 

Ronald Kelly’s curiosity for art lies within the outcome. For Kelly, painting is similar to freezing moments in time. “Sometimes I look at the world as moving pieces of art strokes,” he says. A self-taught Orlando artist, Kelly has been painting for 35 years. And some of his originals were commissioned in Orlando and displayed at the John H. Jackson Community Center in Miami’s 5th St. Gym, where Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Leonard once trained. History is as important to Kelly as his paintbrush, and says accessibility is his canvas. “Constant exposure to art causes contamination in a positive way.”
