Cynthia Slater has been involved in her community for many years. She currently holds the title of President of the Daytona Beach Branch of the NAACP; a title that she has held since 2001. She served as 1st Vice President of the Daytona Beach NAACP (1998-2000) under the leadership of her mentor; Commissioner and NAACP President Charles W. Cherry, Sr. Cynthia served as 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th Vice President for the Florida State Conference NAACP for during a 14-year span; and also served as Area Director and Chair of the Civic Engagement Committee for the Florida State Conference NAACP.
Awards and recognitions includes Bethune-Cookman College (University) Breaking the Glass Ceiling Award, Centennial Luminary Award-The Bethune-Cookman College Bronze Statue Project, Distinguished Alumni of Bethune-Cookman College (University), Branch President of the Year for the Florida State Conference NAACP, the Outstanding Community Leadership Award, and the Martin Luther King Service Award. In April, 2011, Cynthia was recognized as one of the top 30 Power People listed in the April addition of the FloridianView magazine. Cynthia is the proud mother of one daughter; Keona Slater-Barnwell and a son-in-law; Sean.
