Exploring the Relationship Between Film and Social Justice: Minor Differences

Minor Differences is a newly released documentary that chronicles the eighteen-year journey of five men who each served time as youth in a maximum-security lockup for juveniles. The film provides a glimpse into the lives of these individuals and reveals the effect of their incarceration, lasting far beyond the time of their release. The filmmaker and three of the subjects of the film will join this Spotlight on Youth to discuss the documentary, their hopes for its use, and the impact of making the film on all of their lives. Guests will additionally share their perspectives on juvenile justice reform and the role of cinema and other forms of art to help educate the public on social justice issues.

Guests:

Joseph Downs, Former Youth Featured in Film

Heather Dew Oaksen, Filmmaker

Matt Stafford, Former Youth Featured in Film
