Education is a known key to success affording youth the opportunity to develop skills and competencies necessary for them to become productive adults. For a variety reasons, many youth placed in juvenile detention and correctional settings do not receive quality education leading to a revolving door of system involvement. Guests on this show will explore the current issues related to educating youth in institutional settings and discuss opportunities to develop educational programming that meets individual youth's needs and supports their reintegration back into the community and local school system. The show will also highlight the innovative programming of the Maya Angelou Academy, the school located inside of New Beginnings, the District of Columbia's long-term, secure facility for youth who are adjudicated delinquent.

Guests:

David Domenici, Co-Founder, See Forever Foundation and Maya Angelou Schools, and former Principal of the Maya Angelou Academy at New Beginnings

Dr. Peter E. Leone, Professor, University of Maryland, Department of Special Education
