World Health Day: Impact of Lyme Disease

April 7th is World Health Day. The World Health Organization chooses a topic for World Health Day and 2014 is Vector-borne diseases. Vector-borne disease is an illness caused by an infectious microbe that is transmitted to people by blood-sucking insects such as ticks, mites, fleas, and lice. According to the CDC, Lyme disease is the most commonly reported vector-borne illness in the United States & 7th most common Nationally Notifiable disease.
