About Bill Shacklett: Murfreesboro and Rutherford County's Bill Shacklett served from 2002 until 2006 on the Murfreesboro City Council, and has been part of a family business for 40 years. An MTSU graduate with a B.S. in urban planning and political science, Shacklett feels equally at home coaching his Little League baseball team, working as a youth advisor or teaching Sunday School at his church, serving on the Uncle Dave Macon Days board, being involved with Read to Succeed, the American Red Cross, Main Street Revitalization Project or the Only Downtown Business Alliance among many other projects that better our community. What are the three reasons you should be elected? 1. I am a life-long resident of this community with 30+ years of knowledge, experience and relationships to help bring government closer to the people it serves. 2. I am a product of the area schools with a BS in Urban Planning/Political Science from MTSU. I have served on Murfreesboro City Council so I understand the impact of state decisions on local gov’t and our citizens. 3. I am an active volunteer/ leader in a wide variety of community service organizations (First Presbyterian Church, American Red Cross, Read To Succeed, Main Street Revitalization Project, Only Downtown Business Alliance, Optimist Little League Baseball, Uncle Dave Macon Days ). I have a record of bringing people together to find innovative solutions to difficult community problems and realizing opportunities to better our community. What are your three main priorities for your district? 1. Sustaining the quality of life of our citizens by creating and maintaining meaningful employment opportunities in the district. 2.Supporting the provision of government services to our citizens (Schools, Public Safety, Streets and Roads etc.) 3. Bringing the citizens into the deliberative process of government by listening to their input and helping them to understand the issues.
