Join me as I speak to the founders of two new magazines on the scene.

Downsouf Magazine started as a dream more than a decade ago. We looked around and didn’t see images of Mississippi lesbian or transgendered individuals, nor a media outlet specific to our needs and after some collaboration Downsouf was born. DS is the first monthly magazine of its kind in Mississippi specific to the needs of individuals who identify as lesbian or transgendered. Downsouf covers news, art & eats, entertainment and anything LGBTQ in the south. You will look in DS and see people who look, think and feel just like you because we “are” you. We exist because you exist. Everything is "better" downsouf....

REINA was created in 2011 under the direction of Ashlei, also known as Vonnie Spiv. The magazine envisions bridging resources in the lesbian community of color through discourse surrounding various subjects
pertinent to this community. REINA believes in expanding the voice of the community. Even though the magazine is targeted to lesbians of
color, there is something is this magazine for everyone. We embrace our community and our allies.
