Renee Bess is a Philadelphia native. Before embarking upon a writing career, Renee taught Spanish and French in two Philadelphia public high schools. In 1994, Renee’s short story, “At the Beauty Parlor,” won first place in a literary contest sponsored by Labyrinth Newspaper. Following that award, two pieces of Renee’s short fiction were included in two LGBT Canadian anthologies, “Piece of My Heart” and “Ma-ka: Diasporic Juks.”

“Leave of Absence,” Renee’s first novel, was published in 2005 by Borders Personal Publishing/Xlibris. Her second novel, “Breaking Jaie,” (Regal Crest Enterprises) debuted in August, 2007, and her third book, “RE:Building Sasha” was published in November, 2008 by Regal Crest Enterprises. “The Butterfly Moments,” a “romans-tery” was published in September, 2010 by Regal Crest Enterprises.

Renee remains committed to writing quality, artistic prose about the lives of African-American lesbians. She fills her stories with vibrant characters, timely social themes, intrigue, and mystery. When she considers all of the elements that fill a well written novel, she knows she has a predilection for creating complex realistic characters and beautifully crafted language. Renee is always grateful for her readers’ interest and loyalty, and she appreciates receiving feedback regarding her fiction. Please visit her website: www.reneebess.com.
