My Mama Said Yo Mama’s A Dyke is an urban mockumentary tale about a group of teens who become fed up with their lesbian moms and decide to enlist them into an uncanny camp that specializes in de-lesbianism. It was written, produced and directed by CoquieHughes.

The journey for this project actually began two and a half months after the director’s daughter was born in 2006 when she was told by a former close friend that she would be an unfit mother if she continued to live her life as a lesbian. Disturbed by this preposterous assumption, the director felt it was necessary to meet other moms like her to get their perspectives. So she set out on a quest to create a real to life documentary, interviewing various African-American lesbian and bisexual moms along with their children. The title for the film was derived from an actual conversation that took place between one of the lesbian mom’s children and a neighbor’s child.

Join Kat as she talks with CoquieHughes about the film and the story behind it.
