This week on Scottscope Talk Radio, we’ll be diving headlong into Marvel’s upcoming Secret Wars Event!  Will this be the end of the Marvel Universe as we know it?  Will this reboot create greater fidelity between the Marvel Comics Universe and the Marvel Cinematic Universe?  Does it bear comparison to DC comics Crisis on Infinite Earths?  Is this merely a calculated move to boost sales?  Have reboots become something of a safety net for both Marvel and DC?  What good, if any, could possibly come from this?

We’ll also be talking about the historical epic Selma.  Was it snubbed at the Oscar nominations?  If so, why was it snubbed?  Does the answer boil simply boil down to good old fashioned racism, or is there something else afoot?  Is Spike Lee right about the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences?  Should Black Americans simply dismiss and disregard the Oscars?  Are the Oscars even still relevant?  What does this mean for future Black biopics and historical dramas looking to get recognition from the Academy?

We’ll also be discussing the ongoing controversy with Clint Eastwood’s latest, American Sniper!  Is Chris Kyle a true American hero, or a raging sociopath that is now being deified by Hollywood?  Can the film be dismissed as merely jingoistic right-wing propaganda?  How accurate is the film in its portrayal of Chris Kyle?  Why has the Motion Picture Academy, which is largely seen as a liberal institution, nominated it for multiple Oscars?  Should historical accuracy be a prerequisite for biopics?
